Get Confident and Putt Better

Through most of the site we go over the mechanics of putting, such as keeping those shoulders in our triangle formation when swinging, and swinging to keep the ball on a straight path towards the hole. This time we are going to talk a little bit more about the mental side of putting, and how being confident on the green can be the difference between a monster putting game or a dud.

So much in life relies on confidence and being sure of your self in different situations, now I’m not here to go Dr. Drew on you but to become a better putter we need to work on the thing between our ears and not just the physical aspect of the game. Lets just walk through this real quick to get an idea of exactly what confidence can do to your game, take a couple balls out to the green next time you have a minute and just putt the first couple shots while in your mind thinking about overshooting the hole and missing the putt. Now do the same thing except this time I want you to imagine the ball going into the hole, see if your change in mindset changes the outcome when you are putting. Yes? I would imagine so because how we perceive our golf game is a huge part in how we play. Part of this confidence means putting in the work and going through the drills that help you tell yourself that every shot is something that you can tackle with the fundamental skills you have already been practicing. Every player knows about that time that they have had that day where they cannot make any shots and just feel like the day is over from the start. To keep our head level we need to keep our mind right, don’t think about all the missed putts you have made in your life when you are having a bad day, think about those putts that you made because you put in the effort to practice and get better. Lets look at some traits of confident people.
